  • O-Scene: If it’s not here, don’t go there…

This is the Oakland blog for people living out loud. True to the Oakbook philosophy, we’ll tell you where to go, what to do, and what’s really going down in the town and around the Bay. From parties to films, peace protests to flag football, if there's a there there, we'll blog it.
  • Invite us to things. We’re great at parties.

If you've got events, photos, videos, announcements or general news on all the happenings in the Bay, send 'em over to us at oscene@theoakbook.com And don't be afraid to leave a comment. Don't be shy...come over and talk to us. You just might get lucky!

Tour Oakland This Sunday

Posted by novoscene on September 15, 2007

Rebuilding Together Oakland, a 14-year-old group that rehabilitates homes of low income, disabled, and elderly homeowners, is getting a fund-raiser of sorts this weekend.

They get the proceeds from the first annual Urban Living Tour, a self-guided tour of Oakland and Emeryville designed for people that love cities.

Billed as “an educational adventure,” the organizers of the tour, who include developers, media companies, banks, and a chapter of the American Institute of Architects, say they will introduce tour-takers to different kinds of “urban environments” — more than 12, according to the web site. If you sign up, you’ll get a map, and you can choose to drive or bike the given route.

You’ll get to see converted warehouses as well as restored Victorians, but the highlight will probably be the train station in West Oakland. No, not the BART station, but the station that was once the terminus of the Trans Continental Railroad. You can see some photos of the station here.

Second on the list of highlights, or perhaps the first for some, will probably be Bruce Beasley’s sculpture garden. It’ll save you a trip to the Museum of Modern Art in New York and to the Guggenheim.

Highlights aside, it sounds like a good excuse to bike on a warm September afternoon.
