2/10 Lakeview Gallery Group Show

Posted by novoscene on February 10, 2008

Last year artists from the Lakeview Art Gallery used the bare wall adjacent to Lakeview Elementary School for a large scale exercise in public art and community building. A team of artists, headed by longtime Lake Merritt fixture “Peter of the Lake,” enlisted the help of kids from the school, parents and surrounding businesses to create a mural depicting snapshots of life and nature from around the world that stretches almost the length of an entire football field. According to the project’s director,“Our Community — Our World”, is meant to “visualize a global interpretation of Lake Merritt, a panoramic view of the whole world represented by natural and man-made landmarks and cultural icons.”

The gallery recently began hosting fund raisers and art shows at i’s space across the street and today’s a good time to stop by and see projects they’ve got cooking for the rest of the year. The show brings together artists from the mural and others, including Dara Grey, Mary Ann Zapalac, My-Linh Nguyen, Nina Lasant and Peter Lee, showing works from sculpture to acrylics and artistic quilts. The show runs through February 29.
