Photos: Lizz Wright @ Yoshi’s

If you missed Lizz Wright’s 3 night tour at Yoshi’s last weekend you missed one of the best young singers on the scene. Although she had to cancel the Friday night set due to illness, the intensity of Saturday’s show made up for the loss. A jazz singer with roots in the church (her dad’s a minister) and vocal training from The New School, Wright’s music is heavy on the soul and spirit and the tracks on the new album, The Orchard, dip more into the personal than her previous releases Salt and Dreaming Wide Awake.

During a preshow interview, Wright called the tracks on The Orchard, “some of her best writing” and said she hoped her fans would feel the same. If the nodding heads and blissed looks from the audience were any indication, she doesn’t have anything to worry about. Check out some pics of the show by Novoscene contributing photographer Dorice McFadden.

Will have to send her telepathic signals and vibes to come back soon! I foolishly missed her shows. She’s unbelievable…The Orchard is fantastic.
