• O-Scene: If it’s not here, don’t go there…

This is the Oakland blog for people living out loud. True to the Oakbook philosophy, we’ll tell you where to go, what to do, and what’s really going down in the town and around the Bay. From parties to films, peace protests to flag football, if there's a there there, we'll blog it.
  • Invite us to things. We’re great at parties.

If you've got events, photos, videos, announcements or general news on all the happenings in the Bay, send 'em over to us at oscene@theoakbook.com And don't be afraid to leave a comment. Don't be shy...come over and talk to us. You just might get lucky!

8/12 Buy!! Buy!! Buy!!

Posted by novoscene on August 11, 2008

Recession’s here people-time to start hording the canned goods, stocking up on non perishables and rallying round the ol’ bomb shelter before the throngs of hungry masses come beating on your door. Save and skimp, that’s the conventional wisdom, right? But maybe, just maybe, it’s time to start spending?

While it’s true that the overall economy is in the tank, if you’re got a little extra cheddar to invest, several big brained analysts are saying that this is the perfect time to do it. Buy low sell high and all that. But what if you have no experience whatsoever in the stock market? What if a stock ticker is about as readable as Latin and the concept of bear and bull markets only conjure up thoughts of the Zoo? Well if this is you, the intro to the Stock Market workshop is where you should spend your Tuesday night.

Kiwan Gore will be at the deFremery Rec Center tonight to answer all your questions about the market rise and fall, how to buy smart and the best ways for newbie investors to get their feet wet. I’d still make sure those cupboards are stocked before jumping into the financial waters, but come out tonight and learn how to swim in the sea of big money.-kwan

Intro to Stocks and the Stock Market
