O-Scene

IF IT’S NOT HERE, DON’T GO THERE

  • O-Scene: If it’s not here, don’t go there…

This is the Oakland blog for people living out loud. True to the Oakbook philosophy, we’ll tell you where to go, what to do, and what’s really going down in the town and around the Bay. From parties to films, peace protests to flag football, if there's a there there, we'll blog it.
  • Invite us to things. We’re great at parties.

If you've got events, photos, videos, announcements or general news on all the happenings in the Bay, send 'em over to us at oscene@theoakbook.com And don't be afraid to leave a comment. Don't be shy...come over and talk to us. You just might get lucky!

11/25 Soul for the Souls

Posted by novoscene on November 24, 2008

First Fela Kuti gave us Afro-Beat, then San-Francisco’s Sila gave us Afro-Funk, and when London’s Siji takes over PST tomorrow night we’ll have Afro-Soul, the latest combo of African and American dance floor tunes.

The second of twelve children born to Nigerian immigrant parents in London, SIJI burst onto the scene with his BBE Records debut “God Given” in 2005. With production and remixes from underground legend Osunlade, the LP establised SIji as a favorite new voice on the soul scene. Siji’s sound is a direct throwback to Marvin Gaye’s smooth crooning with frequent stops on the D’Angelo and Maxwell highway. With the release of his new LP, “Adesiji” (Ivy Records) he brings his vision full circle, merging West African rhythms and chants with modern soul production from King Britt and others. Tonight kicks of the Pacific Standard Time Autumn Soul Series.

PST with Siji and DJ Sake-One
$5
10pm-2am
330 Ritch
330 Ritch St., San Francisco
