12/10 Silencing Oakland’s Violence

Posted by novoscene on December 9, 2008

Regular readers of this blog and the Oakbook website know that there’s lot to celebrate inThe Town, but we also know that we’ve still got a long way to go in some areas-namely public safety and the high murder rate. in 2007, Oakland recorded 127 homicides and while the number of homicides in 2008 dropped slightly, violence continues to be a serious issue and according to a new report published in by CQ Press Oakland is now the 5th most dangerous city in the United States. We’ve got to do better folks.

Tomorrow night join The Ella Baker, The Silence the Violence Campaign, community leaders and concerned Oakland residents as they remember those we’ve lost in 2008 and work to find solutions to keep the same from happening in 2009.

Evening of Remembrance Ceremony
