Dance, nothing left for me to do but dance
Off these bad times I’m going through just dance
Got canned heat in my heals tonight, baby

-Jamiroquai “Canned Heat”

Whoa daddy! If the two weeks of ’09 are any indication, we’re in for a mother of a year. Police shootings, protests, a shitty economic outlook and a general WTF feeling deep in the pits of the stomach.

But fear not good nightlife lovers! There’s still plenty of time to turn this boat around and the 1st step of exorcising these 2009 demons  should be attend a serious dance floor seance. Come shake off blahs of early ’09  at one of these parties goin down over the next few days.  They’re all in Town and their all completely free.

Damn, I’m feelin’ better already.-kwan

Brothers and Sisters

After a brief hiatus and a search for a new local, Oakland’s best weekly house music party is back in action. Dedan and crew have moved the deep house grooves over to the Vibe Lounge and this week they’re breaking in the new spot properly with the help of guest DJ Abdul Itote. Gotta have house music, all night long.

Ya just really gotta love someone who owns the word whore, and you really, really have to give props to a self proclaimed audio whore. And every week DJ Jen Schande lives up to the moniker spinning sets of sweet ’60 soul, funk, garage rock and indie. Get loose.

Mardi Gras Dance Party

Even though Mardi Gras is still a month away, that doesn’t mean we can’t start the celebration a little early right? This one’s in the afternoon and promises to be fun for the whole family, from the “Tots to Grand Pops.” Grab your best Mardi Gras duds and a handful of beads and head down to catch a Cajun/Creole set from Sauce Piquante’s 5 piece band.

Good Times

With a mission to bring more funky soul back to The Town’s nightlife, bay.be and octopus ent. are kicking off their new night with help from DJ’s Henroc, Jamo, Mark Di Vita, Guru G, Cecil, Cali and Drama. The line up’s heavy, the vibe sounds chill, the price is right up my alley and the venue looks rather plush. And come on, the name of the party’s Good Times. Hell yeah, I’m down.
