The Real Tom Thunder, Lavendi, Ehren Ebbage, Spenser Cooper

Who is The Real Tom Thunder? Well, one answer could be that they’re the Oakland based trio of Dan Real on guitar, Tom Kleinsmith on bass, and Leon Thunder Wheeler on drums, but that’s so boring. The better answer is that they’re a huge hybrid (is there any other kind of band in the bay?) of funky dance rock, indie rock, jam bands, and reggae. They’re somewhere between Sublime and Led Zeppelin, or Smashing Pumpkins and The Dave Mathews Band, or Coldplay and the Killers. To be honest, they’re pretty all over the place. But it’s all pretty damned danceable. Check them out tonight with Sexy Hollywood rockers Lavendi, Oregon’s Ehren Ebbage, and Spencer Cooper

bPitch 10-Year Anniversary Tour ft/ Ellen Allien

This year BPitch Control is celebrating their 10 year anniversary with a global tour by bPitch founder and all around techno badass Ellen Allien. After the success of last year’s ‘SOOL’ and all the requisite remixes, Allien’s back to prove that while she might run a label that pumps out some of the most eclectic techno remixes around, she’s far from a suit and tie exec. Come find out why she’s become an SF favorite that sells out venues wherever she rolls through.

Act a Lady

Set in a conservative Midwestern town in 1927, Act a Lady follows the bucolic misadventures of three average Joes who decide to mount an 18th century period play for charity, only to have their personal and world views all shook up. Hoop-skirted and wigged, the three earnest thespians discover that while sartorial choices may indeed make the man, said choices can also complicate their relationships with women, other men, and the local Women’s Temperance Society. Part fashion review, part show-with-in-a-show, part iconic meeting of highbrow interaction with lowbrow pragmatism, Seattle native Jordan Harrison’s Act a Lady was the comic hit of the 2006 Humana Festival of New Plays.

Village Bottoms Farms Work Party

Come get your hands dirty in The Village Bottoms as they take the next steps in creating a huge new urban garden and fishery along Pine St. They’ve partnered with Oakland’s EcoCity Builders Growing Power, Inc. of Milwaukee on the details and planning and now it’s time to start the digging. There’ll be red wigglers and composting, raised planter beds and drum circles. Bring your work gloves and something to throw on the grill.

Five Peace Band ft: Chick Corea, John McLaughlin, Christian McBride, Kenny Garrett, Vinnie Colaiuta

You know you’ve got a monster of a band when every member can be named by last name alone. As solo artists as bandleaders Chick Corea, John McLaughlin, Christian McBride, Kenny Garrett and Vinnie Colaiuta have each had successful careers. Especially Corea and Mclaughin, who’ve been breaking music boundaries since they paired up for Miles Davis’ infamous Bitches Brew Sessions in 1969. Together, performing as the Five Peace Band I’m guessing that the music starts off somewhere around jazz land, takes a right turn at fusion and ends up in some far off pyschadelia field somewhere. Not matter where they take you though, it’s pretty much assured that it will sound fantastic. Corea, McLaughin and McBride will be giving a preshow talk from 5-6:30.
