Women’s Cancer Research Center Fund raiser

Tonight the Lireille Gallery keeps it’s doors open late for fund raising show with Oakland artist and jewelry maker Brenda Reinertson. Reinertson’s current work features colorful mazes of geometric forms and shapes inspired by daily glimpses of the natural world. A portion of the proceeds for tonight’s show will be donated to the Women’s Cancer Resource Center for ongoing support.

Filmnight 1.0

The Parkway might be gone, but there’s a new home for film in Oakland! Starting tonight the Swarm gallery kicks off a new series of monthly screenings of experimental, documentary, short, feature-lenth and animated film. Tonight’s FILMNIGHT 1.0 is curated by Samara Halperin, video artist and Assistant Professor of Art at Mills College and will feature a series of short vids and video installation-based work by Mills College students. Featuring work by: Amanda Bailey, Brian Caraway, Stephanie Cooper, Loke Davis, Grace Rosario Perkins, Steuart Pittman, Annie Vought, Doug Williams and Andrew Witrak.

Collectively Fishbone and Monkey have been making beautiful reggae/rock anthems for more than 20 years and the all star members of Bang Data bring together the talents of Dave Lopez from Flipsyde on guitar, Deuce Eclipse on vocals & Juan Caipo on Drums.

Annual California Wildflower Show

A flower lover’s delight over at the Oakland Museum. Savor the colors and fragrance of hundreds of freshly collected native flowers and learn from experts on the art of the green thumb. There’ll be lectures and workshops throughout the day including Dr. Richard Beidleman discussing “In the Shadow of Darwin;” Dr. Linda Vorobik talking about “Sierra Nevada: A Celebration of Wildflowers;” and Dr. Frank Almeda giving the latest on “Sustainability and the Living Roof of the California Academy of Sciences.”

We Hella Hate Potholes Oakland Bike Ride

Bring your bike, a pad of paper and a pen-it’s pothole fightin’ time! The folks from Spot.us are calling on all pothole hatin’ Oaklanders to join them for a Saturday morning bike ride with a purpose. Volunteers will bike throughout the town,jotting down the location of the city’s worst car swallowers. The info will be submitted for an upcoming story in the Oakland Tribune, which will hopefully result in some swift knock down drag out city vs pothole action. Even if you can’t attend think of donating $10 to the cause.

The Kwame Copeland Band

Kwame Copeland’s music spans the most delicate ballads to hardest driving rock. Each piece highlights various band members but it’s Kwame’s musical soul that’s on exhibit each time-whether humorous, sad, crazy or joyous. Copland will be joined by Dave Finn, QB Williams-Percussion, Tim Perdue-Bass and Valerie Lipman-Percussion.
