Show your love for momma earth, lend a hand on a community service project and party with a whole buncha green livin’. community activists and artists ranging from Emory Douglass to DJ Spooky at the week long Communitree Festival, which starts tonight and runs through the weekend.
The festival, which runs through May 10, is a fundraiser for Urban Releaf, a Town based org that puts kids to work planting trees in throughout the O and Richmond. Festivities kick off tonight at Mosswood Park with a community potluck and clothes swap. Some of the week’s highlights include Thursday’s Community Roots art show and panel discussion with Jason Harvey of Oakland Food Connection, Judy Quea of Cafe Gratitude, Moe Betta Food’s David Roach and others, followed by Friday’s “Whompsteady” with performances by NY conceptual DJ/multimedia artist DJ Spooky and OneLoveHipHop’s Felonius.
