• O-Scene: If it’s not here, don’t go there…

This is the Oakland blog for people living out loud. True to the Oakbook philosophy, we’ll tell you where to go, what to do, and what’s really going down in the town and around the Bay. From parties to films, peace protests to flag football, if there's a there there, we'll blog it.
  • Invite us to things. We’re great at parties.

If you've got events, photos, videos, announcements or general news on all the happenings in the Bay, send 'em over to us at oscene@theoakbook.com And don't be afraid to leave a comment. Don't be shy...come over and talk to us. You just might get lucky!

Posted by novoscene on June 15, 2009

He’s toured the world and played with greats ranging from Stan Getz to Chaka Khan and considers Art Blakey his biggest influence even though his music, dubbed “R & Bebop,” infuses everything from blues to dancehall. When drummer Victor Jones says he gets inspiration from everywhere, he definitely means it.

Get a taste of Jones’ eclectic sensibilities when he brings his band Culture-Versy to the Oakland Public Conservatory tonight. The group blends Hip Hop, Soul, Jazz and Funk into a totally unique sound. Kick your week of with a bit of melody.
