IF IT’S NOT HERE, DON’T GO THERE

  • O-Scene: If it’s not here, don’t go there…

  • Invite us to things. We’re great at parties.

If you've got events, photos, videos, announcements or general news on all the happenings in the Bay, send 'em over to us at oscene@theoakbook.com And don't be afraid to leave a comment. Don't be shy...come over and talk to us. You just might get lucky!

Oakland Then and Now

It’s an Oakland kind of exhibit: Embroidery crafted by Mien women living here on display at the big house of a 19th century ranchero. “On Saturday, February 13 at the Peralta Hacienda a trained docent will give a special kid’s tour, getting hands-on with history. In our temporary exhibit, “Embroidering Our Lives: Mien Women at Peralta Hacienda,” we’ll have a family-friendly embroidery activity: challenge yourself to create the complex patterns found on traditional Laotian Mien clothing, and learn what they mean!”

Saturday, February 13, 2 PM, 3 PM kid’s tour
Antonio Peralta House, 2465 34th Avenue
$3 suggested donation

St. Valentine Sweetie Pie and Art Fest

Join the Pie Extremists to eat pie. Yes, this is a festival where people bring pies they made or bought and eat them together. And bonus points if you bring a fork and materials to decorate it with. They’ll have some spares on hand, too — in case you forget. Attendees are welcome to bring pie or other things to eat. And of course, this is a kid-friendly event.

After you’re done eating, do some shopping: Jewelry, handmade books, love potions (or so they promise), art cards, paintings, prints, handmade creams and soaps, and of course, tee-shirts.

Saturday, February 13, 2 PM – 8 PM
4928 Telegraph Ave #1 (dial #19 for entry)

Rocky Horror Valentine

If the Rocky Horror Picture Show fans have a patron saint, it’s surely St. Valentine. The bawdy performers working under the name Barely Legal are back at the Grand Lake Saturday night with their annual Valentine’s Day show.

Sound Tribe Sector 9

If you’re into electronic music — the kind where the computers and samplers marry pianos, drums and guitars — you’ve probably heard of STS9. The five-member band from Santa Cruz is touring after their new album, Ad Explorata, and will be at the Fox Theater on Saturday night. Guest star: the Nalepa Dub Orchestra

Fox Theater, 1807 Telegraph

F Cupid

Over the decades the Merchant’s Saloon in the heart of the produce market has no doubt been the site of many a messy and ill-considered hook-up. That’s perhaps why the bar, which is Oakland’s best hipster dive, is hosting a F*CK Valentine’s Day party.

It will feature such audience contests as: THE WORST SEX EVER Contest: Participants will have their worst one night stands re-told in interpretive dance!

THE WORST EX EVER Contest: Participants will have one minute to rant and roar why they have the worst ex in history. Winners will have pig hearts sent to their ex lover’s house!

Salacious Burlesque by ISIS STAR * Beatbox Performance by SYZYGY and ASHERMANE * A Notorious SEX ED SQUAD Live Demonstration * Twisted Short Films * Fierce Flogging by the Pussy Posse * Sex Toy Give-Aways.
