Happy happy! Joy joy! Looks like the folks over at 21 Grand have reopened their doors for more Avante Gard (sidenote-does anyody really describe themselves as “Avant Garde?” If so please stop.) arts goodness. Just saw this in my inbox. Check it out:
“Seattle’s Dead Bird Movement performs their latest work Thrashaholic – a duo for dance (Jessie Smith) and drums (Jeffrey Mitchell) that is a full-on endurance blow out. This show is built of 100 short contemporary dance solos. Smith ‘s movements run the gamut of extremes, ranging from precise adagios to thrashing outbursts. Mitchell ‘s drumming follows a similar trajectory, mixing metal beats with complicated polyrhythms. As the performers near exhaustion, Thrashoholic takes an unexpected twist, jumping the piece into a realm of experimental performance art where the outcome could get very messy… Following this are two sets of music: one featuring the countryish/rockish band from New York, Plainville, featuring horn player Jeremy Udden, and also the duo of Fred Frith (guitar) and Matthias Bossi (percussion) – ” a quiet evening at home with two of music’s best-known yodelers.”
Yodeling huh? Eh, sure. It’s 21 Grand after all. Welcome back.
