Just as the Oakland International Film Fest is one of “The Town”‘s best-kept secrets, so, too is Kev Choice. But not for long. An Oakland native who’s played with Too $hort, Lauryn Hill, and Lyrics Born, and leads his own 10-piece band-the Kev Choice Ensemble-Choice has received props for his cutting-edge mix of conscious hip-hop, jazz, classical, funk, and soul, while the East Bay Express dubbed him “The East Bay’s Most Multi-Talented Musician” in its annual Best Of The East Bay edition.
Tonight after checking out the OIFF closing night documentary, (The new Public Enemy documentary the we know every one’s going to) be sure to head over to the Uptown for the closing night party, hosted by Choice and featuring the Kev Choice Ensemble, famed DJ Davey D and crowd favorite Ant Marshall. This event marks the Oakland debut of “Emergence,” a live performance series created by Choice to spotlight some of the Bay’s hottest and freshest musical talent, as well as debut new works and preview selections from his upcoming debut CD, The Broken Mold.
